a new start

I finally finished my quilt repair,
now all I have to do is take a few pictures of it, then give it away.
{sniff}
I also cut out my shirt
so it was time.
Time to cut into my carefully curated new stack :-)

I'm only half finished.
It's a big stack ;-)

This time, to increase my efficiency further,
I put my cutting table even closer to the ironing board (and wedged the trash can in between the two)
and marked the table where I'd need to make cuts, so I wouldn't have to think about it each time.
I'll just use alcohol to remove my marks when I'm done with 'em.

Often times, cutting is just a necessary means to an end,
but I've rather enjoyed it this time.
Of course, you can see that there are several Jenean Morrison pieces in those stacks,
so that may have something to do with it...
The only problem is, even with my efficiency measures in place,
 is it is taking so long.
The problem is my iron.
It's been a good iron. A great iron, really,
so long as I'm fine with slow methodical ironing and pressing.
But when I'm starching and ironing 40+ fabrics for cutting,
I'm not really into slow and methodical;
I want a beast of an iron that'll do the job in one quick pass.
Not fifty of 'em.
(any suggestions? besides this one, I mean...)

  1. California Dremain' - I love it. Two of my early quilts were using this fabric - one in the pinks, one blu/greens.
    Hoping you make good progress on this one.

  2. This is the one I bought last summer, after trying out 2-3 different Rowenta's and returning them for leaking all over my quilt fabric's :( Its heavy weight, the steam is excellent and it works great on quilting cotton.

  3. Karen~ Cali Dreamin will always be my first fabric love :-)

    T ~ I love you, too!! :-)

    Melissa ~ thanks for the suggestion - that does look like a pretty good one. Do you use steam when you prep your quilt fabrics for cutting? I tend to not (read somewhere that it distorts the fabric too much..) but I do starch the heck out of it ;-) On my clothes, though, (both while sewing and already made) I like tons of steam (except when it'd burn my fingers ;-)
